Focus on the Game
This video slot comes in the common 5 reels by 3 rows, but instead of 20 paylines, it features 243 betways.
Graphics and sound
The team also chose to tone down the narcotics and violence themes in the TV series with a subtle focus on hunting Pablo Escobar. This resulted in a lighter feel in the gameplay and set the stage for fun. At the end of the day, the theme of good versus evil dominated the game. The team took into account that although Pablo might have done many charitable deeds, he also committed capital offenses that put him on the wrong side of the law. But the game comes with a twist that allows the player to decide their favorite symbols.
You can adjust your bet by using the controls underneath the reels. The game has an RTP percentage of 96.23% and medium/high volatility. This makes it one of our slots that can be most rewarding to gamers.
Behind every successful NetEnt video slot is a dedicated team of experts who work hard and diligently to produce a masterpiece worth of global accolades. And today we want to bring you an exclusive interview with our development team responsible for delivering the Narcos Video Slot project. Luckily, the Art Director Matthew Butler and Game Production Lead Johan Stenlund were kind enough to share with us the joys and difficulties that the team had to overcome to produce a game that met the expectations of Narcos fanbase. Here are some inspirations behind the development of this video slot.
According to Matthew Butler, it is a tall order to incorporate all the features of a complex movie such as Narcos in a single game. This TV series comes with diverse settings and characters and so the team had a tough time deciding which characters and settings would fit the gameplay so that players will recognize them easily. This was a very important stage of the game development because it made sure that the video slot represented the key themes in the TV show. Another challenge that came up was getting the chosen characters to accept the look of their portraits used for the game.
Giving a brief recap of the game development process, the Art Director reiterates that they used a more stylized style which was a mix of 3D and hand-drawn assets. This approach meant ditching film and photographic assets which were readily available. The team did this for a reason. They wanted to take the Narcos title a notch higher in the gaming industry and allow it to compete at the level of AAA gaming consoles. The target was to use a style and gameplay, which would appeal to our casino audience across the world. We are optimistic that this objective is achievable.
This approach allows the player to be the master of their emotions as both Pablo LockUp and DEA Wild will give you great wins. As Game Production Lead Johan Stenlund observes, the game design incorporates a lot of fun-filled features that will appeal to many gamers. For example, the Walking Wilds in the main game are meant to make the game a little sticky. If you land a Wild, it will walk to the next reel during the next spin and increase your chances to win. The game also contributes a lot towards popularizing our already strong NetEnt brand.
As Johan further explains, the Pablo LockUp feature is activated by landing three Pablo symbols on the same row. This feature comes with falling golden suitcases, which have random prizes. The nature of the suitcases is that you can see them but this doesn’t guarantee a win. This goes a long way in emphasizing the high volatility of the game.
If you land Free Spins, you will play in the backdrop of a fierce shootout of the series’ first season. Here, you get the bonus of activating the Walking Wilds, which continue to play after the Free Spins are over.
The beauty of this is that the Walking Wilds can be triggered by any spin. This means that there is a chance for the Walking Wilds to continue for some time beyond the Free Spins.
Another special feature on this video slot is the phone booth on the left-hand side. This was built-in to add fun to the game. It was originally designed to ring from time to time but, in the end, the team felt that it could become an irritant to gamers and negate the purpose it was built for. Instead, the team replaced the ringing feature with a flashing one.
It also reduced the frequency of the flashes so that players can focus on playing the game and win big after all this is the purpose of the game. The fun about this booth is that when you click on the flashing phone booth, a voice imitating that of Pablo answers your call. One of our artists from Spain did the voice work in our studio. This feature brings life to the game and makes it feel realistic. For a moment, you feel as if you are talking with the real Pablo Escobar and that thought alone gives you a unique connection with the character, so don’t wait any longer! Dive into this thrilling world and play Narcos!
